Are you looking for a teaching internship abroad? Go-Elective offers dynamic Education and Teaching Internship programs abroad that provide a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant educational landscape of East Africa. Our programs are designed to not only enhance your teaching skills but also contribute to the development of underprivileged communities.
We recognize the pressing need for education and the challenges presented by the shortage of teachers and overcrowded classes. Embarking on this journey offers an opportunity to learn from the status quo, equipping you with invaluable skills such as problem-solving. As you navigate this experience, you'll not only enrich young minds' lives but also contribute to the broader canvas of international development.
Participants will explore a wide range of subjects in our program, covering areas like Environment, Hygiene and Nutrition, English, Sign Language, Home Science, Agriculture, Science and Technology, Mathematics, Religious Education (CRE or IRE or HRE), Creative Arts, Social Studies, and Physical and Health Education.
This diverse curriculum aims to provide a complete learning experience, helping students develop knowledge and skills in different areas.
The program is an ideal choice for a diverse range of individuals, including aspiring educators, university students seeking hands-on experience, first-time and solo travelers, gap year participants, passionate volunteers dedicated to making a positive impact in education, global-minded individuals, advocates for sustainable development aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal #4, and those without teaching experience.
The program covers various roles such as Primary/Secondary Teacher, Early Years teacher, Education Administrator, English as a Foreign Language Teacher, Learning Mentor/Tutor, Special Education, Teaching Assistant, Careers Adviser, Child Psychologist, Counsellor, Family Support Worker, Play Therapist, Youth/Social Worker, and more.
The duration of our education and teaching internship abroad is flexible, ranging from 2-12 weeks. You can choose the start and end dates that suit your schedule.
Weekdays include going to the school from 8 am to 1 pm, leaving afternoons for exploring, attending global health seminars, language lessons, or relaxing at the residence. Weekends offer relaxation, embarking on safaris, spending time with kids at local schools, or participating in our volunteer work such as providing preventive health education.
One of our featured schools is Pentrose Community Primary School, located in the heart of a rural community in Mombasa, Kenya, which serves as a focal point for education. With over 800 pupils ranging from 5 to 15 years old, Pentrose follows the Kenyan curriculum, offering a diverse range of subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Sign Language, and more.
We also work with other public and private schools in Mombasa, Malindi, Nairobi, Kakamega, and Arusha in Tanzania.
As a Go-Elective intern, your journey is not just about teaching; it's about becoming a catalyst for positive change, shaping futures, and leaving an enduring legacy in the hearts of those you serve. Your tasks and responsibilities will include:
Go Elective offers a comprehensive teaching internship abroad package.
We provide pre-trip support; airport transfers; 24/7 assistance; safe, spacious, and comfortable housing; private transport; unlimited Wi-Fi access; laundry services; chef-prepared meals tailored to personal dietary preferences; orientation; mentorship/training; residence-based weekly global education insight sessions; language lessons; recommendation letter/certificate of participation; volunteering opportunities as well as a chance to explore the destination, hike Mt. Kilimanjaro or go on a safari.
In today’s interconnected world, gaining a global perspective on education is essential. International experiences enable cultural interaction, skill adaptation, and practical, hands-on learning beyond the classroom.
Besides, our teaching and volunteer programs abroad come with distinct advantages. Including:
Upon your arrival, our designated representative will greet you at the airport and arrange transportation to your residence, allowing you to relax after your journey. The following day, you will receive a thorough local area orientation, followed by a school induction.
During the induction, you will be assigned a local teacher who will guide you throughout the program. We maintain daily communication with your supervisor to ensure your learning experience stays on track and aligns with your objectives.
Our program residences are situated in the safest parts of the cities where we work. Each residence is in a gated community with security staff available all through. The accommodations might involve sharing a room with one other person depending on the number of participants at that particular time.
The residences are equipped with a TV, Wi-Fi, kitchen, dining area, and access to a swimming pool. Additionally, we offer private transportation in the destinations.
Before embarking on your education and teaching internship program, we recommend familiarizing yourself with your designated placement location. Learning about the language, climate, local customs, and culture will enrich your experience and help you adapt more easily. We will cover this in the pre-trip sessions.
We understand that exploring the local culture and attractions is an important part of your experience. In your free time, you'll have the opportunity to go on safaris, join excursions, or even take on adventurous activities like hiking Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa.
These optional add-on activities allow you to fully immerse yourself in the beauty and culture of the placement destinations.
Most applications are solo trips that then join other participants in the program. However, you are free to travel with a group of friends or classmates. Moreover, you have the option of extending your experience by inviting your family to join you for a memorable safari at the program's conclusion.
Note that there may be group discounts available for those who choose to travel with friends or classmates.
Besides Teaching, other work placement options available are Healthcare, Community Development, Business Treks, HIV work, Orphanage Work, Agriculture, Environmental Protection, and more.
Our programs revolve around volunteering, studying abroad, career exploration, cultural immersion, language study, and gap year programs. Which can all be used for school credit.
