In many developing countries, notably East Africa, maternal and infant healthcare faces significant challenges. With a staggering maternal mortality rate in Kenya and Tanzania, reaching 556 deaths per 100,000 live births, and an infant mortality rate of 31 deaths per 1,000 live births, the need for skilled midwives is critical.
As a midwifery intern, this presents a unique opportunity for you to be an essential part of the healthcare team, actively contributing to the promotion of safe and healthy childbirth practices. The diverse healthcare environments you'll encounter, ranging from under-resourced facilities to bustling maternity wards, offer a unique chance for learning and growth in the field.
