One of the biggest advantages of joining a Go-Elective program is flexibility. Our destinations in East Africa are open year-round, meaning you’re not restricted to fixed departure windows. Arrivals take place every Sunday, so you can plan your internship around your own academic calendar or personal commitments.
This flexibility makes it easy to fit a placement into:
Your university’s designated elective period
Summer or winter breaks
The gap between undergrad and professional school
Even after graduation, once you’re already working
If your university requires you to travel during a set block of time, we can accommodate that. Because our teams work directly with partner hospitals, we confirm placements in your chosen departments well in advance.
Keep in mind, availability is limited. We deliberately cap the number of interns in each hospital to preserve both patient care quality and your learning experience. Some specialties only accept two interns at a time, so securing your space early is the best way to guarantee your first choice.

Not every student gets an elective placement built into their degree. Others may have missed the chance during the pandemic. With Go-Elective, you don’t need to miss out.
You can still gain the same eye-opening clinical exposure and cultural immersion as students who travel during term time. Even qualified healthcare professionals regularly join our programs to experience:
Late patient presentations and advanced conditions
Healthcare challenges shaped by cultural and religious beliefs
Treatment in low-resource settings where even basic supplies can be limited
Sometimes plans fall through, and fast. We’ve built a system with our partner hospitals that allows us to tailor placements on short notice. If you need a placement put together quickly, reach out as soon as possible. Whether your original internship was cancelled or you’ve just decided to travel, we can still design an impactful experience.
While placements officially start on Mondays, many students choose to arrive a few days before or stay on afterwards. This gives you time to explore beyond the hospital. Think safaris, coastal trips, or cultural excursions. Our in-country staff are always ready with recommendations to help you make the most of your weekends and travel time.
Demand for our houses and partner hospital departments is high. Groups, in particular, need to plan early to ensure they can be placed together. By registering in advance, you not only lock in your destination but also enjoy more choice in departments and travel dates.
Flexibility is at the heart of every Go-Elective program. Whether you’re fitting an internship into your term-time schedule, travelling over the summer, or planning last minute, we make it possible to have a safe, structured, and unforgettable experience on your terms. Inquire here.
Yes. Once you’ve secured your placement, you can change your travel dates up to 90 days before departure without any administration fees. This gives you peace of mind if your academic calendar or personal plans shift.
Many students choose to add time either before or after their internship for extra travel. You can extend your stay to explore more. Take a safari, or enjoy the coast. Just let us know so we can help you plan around your placement schedule.
Placements officially begin on Sundays to align with hospital orientation and introductions. However, you can choose to arrive earlier if you want to travel beforehand. Some students explore independently for a few days, then join the program house on Sunday.
If your university or training program shifts timelines, we can help adjust your placement dates to fit. The earlier you notify us, the easier it is to accommodate.
