Research can be a powerful addition to a college application, but not simply because the word "research" sounds impressive.

A meaningful research experience can show colleges something deeper: how you think, what questions interest you, how you respond when answers are unclear, and whether you are willing to pursue an idea beyond the classroom.

It can, but research is not a requirement for admission to a strong university.

If research becomes an essay topic, focus less on explaining every scientific detail and more on questions such as:
