Onyalo Primary School lies at the heart of the rural community in Migori with classroom populations up to 60 pupils. A project in this school would include teaching, building desks, reparing the windows to provide the kids with a more condusive learning environment. Volunteer as a group on gap year and summer school expeditions and provide the education development and through inspiration and confidence that is passed on to the children, spend time with the children for their personal development, adding a global dimension to their education.
Elective Africa partners with Emmanuel Children's Home. This Center welcomes orphaned and vulnerable children who have either lost their parents due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic or are being cared for by ailing grandparents.
Migori County occupants are small scale farmers rearing livestock & practicing crop farming for a living. The income is normally not sufficient to sustain the families and the community at large. These communities have limited access to basic social amenities such as healthcare and sanitation facilities.
As a volunteer on your gap year or summer school trip abroad you will learn and discover the unique challenges of providing adequate medical care in rural communities while contributing to this cause
You will learn what it's like to be a doctor, nurse or global health worker in a developing country, comparing the healthcare practices of the western world with traditional medicine from the region
Are you passionate about preserving the natural world so that future generations can thrive?
Go Elective offers community service learning and volunteer abroad experience for students who are freshly from high school or are taking a gap break from University.
Engage in meaningful volunteer work, learn about complex social issues and develop impactful solutions, connect with people from different cultures, and journey to places you’ve only read about in books or seen online. We are flexible to customize placements to desired durations and typically operate from 2 to 4-week volunteer programs.
Most applications are solo trips that then join other participants in the program. However,
you are free to travel with a group of friends or classmates. Moreover, you have the option
of extending your experience by inviting your family to join you for a memorable safari at
the program's conclusion.
Note that there may be group discounts available for those who choose to travel with friends
or classmates.
Besides healthcare, other work placement options available are Teaching, Community Development, Business Treks, HIV work, Orphanage Work, Agriculture, Environmental Protection, and more.

Go Elective surpassed my expectations. From the moment I arrived, the GE staff made me feel at ease. The shadowing experience I got from the rural clinics in Mombasa was incredible, allowing me to see things I don't think I would have seen anywhere else.

Working with a skilled surgeon was incredible, but the real highlight was the eye-opening experience at the Coast General Hospital. It humbled me and showed me the impact that the medical profession can have worldwide.
