Witnessing the struggles of healthcare workers trying to provide quality care with minimal resources was truly humbling. It made me realize how privileged we are in the UK and how much more needs to be done globally to ensure access to healthcare for all.
During my time at Coast General, I was able to play a real role in supporting patient care — from assisting in busy wards to sharing knowledge and skills with local teams. Seeing how much the staff and patients appreciated the effort made me realize that electives are not just about personal growth, but also about leaving behind a positive impact, however modest, on the communities we serve.
