Full Breakdown of Go Elective Program Costs: What’s Included & Why

One of the most common questions we get from students is: “What exactly does the Go Elective program fee cover?” Whether you’re planning a 2-week clinical internship or a longer pre-health immersion abroad, it’s important to understand where your money is going and how it supports your experience.

Unlike basic “placement-only” services, Go Elective is a full-service internship program. That means we don’t just match you with a hospital — we provide housing, in-country support, cultural orientation, transportation, meals, and everything you need to have a safe, meaningful, and fully guided experience in Kenya or Tanzania.

Here’s a transparent, line-by-line breakdown of our program costs, what’s included, and why our internships are designed for value, impact, and safety — not just logistics.

What’s not included in the program fee?

To keep costs flexible and transparent, the following are not included:

  • Flights to and from Kenya or Tanzania
  • Visa fees (usually $50–$100 depending on nationality and entry type)
  • Travel and medical insurance (we can recommend affordable providers)
  • Vaccinations and pre-travel medical clearance
  • Lunch (many students eat affordably at the hospital or pack snacks)
  • Weekend safaris and excursions (optional, available as add-ons)
  • Personal expenses (souvenirs, local SIM cards, extra transport)

We keep our fees inclusive where it matters — safety, housing, learning, and support — and optional where students want flexibility, like choosing their own excursions or lunch options.

Why is there a cost for the internship?

While some students expect internships to be free, especially in underserved settings, global health internships abroad require significant coordination, compliance, and resources. Your program fee helps us:

  • Sustain ethical partnerships with hospitals and local staff
  • Provide safe accommodations with full-time oversight
  • Ensure you never go unsupported — from airport pickup to hospital orientation
  • Offer mentorship, documentation, and real structure (not just placement)
  • Create fair, responsible internships that don’t exploit local systems

We believe that clinical education abroad should be accessible, ethical, and impactful. That’s why we’re proud to be one of the most affordable full-service medical internship providers globally — with no hidden fees or tiered add-ons.
