The NIH confirmed in August 2026 that it plans to continue supporting the MSTP.

MSTP status is important, but it should not be treated as the only measure of program quality. Many non-MSTP MD-PhD programs also provide substantial funding and strong research training.

 

Are MD-PhD Programs Fully Funded?

Many are. The AAMC states that most MD-PhD programs offer financial support that can include:
