Medical Electives Abroad for Italian Students | Clinical Rotations in Africa

Are you a medical student in Italy looking to go beyond the textbooks and clinical halls of your university? A medical elective abroad can be the perfect opportunity to develop hands-on experience, strengthen your clinical knowledge, and immerse yourself in a new healthcare system.

At Go Elective, we offer structured medical electives abroad that meet the learning objectives of Italian medical faculties while giving you the chance to experience Africa’s rich culture, biodiversity, and health challenges.

Why Italian Medical Students Choose Go Elective

Italian medical education spans six years and includes clinical clerkships, which can often be completed abroad. Many universities, including Università di Bologna, Università degli Studi di Milano, and Università di Roma “La Sapienza,” allow or encourage international clinical rotations as part of medical training. Our programs at Go Elective are designed to meet the expectations of Italian universities while providing you with an unforgettable international experience.

What You’ll Gain from a Medical Elective with Go Elective
  1. Guided Hands-On Learning in Diverse Clinical Settings

You’ll rotate through high-volume departments at partner hospitals such as Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital (CGTRH) in Mombasa, Kenya, or Mount Meru Regional Referral Hospital in Arusha, Tanzania. Departments include:

  • Internal Medicine
  • Surgery
  • Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Pediatrics
  • Emergency Medicine, and more

You’ll observe real-world cases of infectious diseases, trauma, maternal health complications, and more — conditions that are rare or managed differently in Europe.

  1. Mentorship and Professional Development

Italian medical students benefit from personalized mentorship during their electives. You’ll be guided by local physicians and consultants who provide bedside teaching, case discussions, and feedback tailored to your learning goals.

English as the Language of Instruction

Basic English proficiency is required to join the program. All clinical interactions, mentorship, and documentation are conducted in English. Don’t worry — you don’t need to be fluent. Our team supports you throughout, and most students find their confidence in medical English improves rapidly during their time abroad.
